At the beginning the settlement and the Creek Running Brushy were called. In 1871, George Cluck traveled on the Chisholm Trail, accompanied by his wife Harriet, the first woman to undertake this difficult journey. In 1873, Cluck bought this land including Running Bushy Spring and built the Cluck Ranch, which became the center of the community. The first post office was established in February 1874 for Running Bushy and was operated by Harriet Cluck for eight years.
In 1882, the Austin and Northwestern Railroad completed its route from Austin to Burnet, crossing the country of the clucks. In this context, the railway company designated the settlement in Brueggerhoff, under the name of a partner of the company. In 1887 the name was renamed Cedar Park. The extraction of limestone for the construction of buildings subsequently became the main economic factor until 1970, which was facilitated by its proximity to Austin. From 1960 onwards, a large part of the former farmland became a farmland and the small village grew from 125 to more than 3000 inhabitants between 1970 and 1980. In 1990, 206 businesses and 5161 inhabitants were registered. In the year 2000, there were already 20,049 inhabitants and 862 shops.
Cedar Park is a space company based in Firefly Aerospace.
Since the 2009/10 season, Cedar Park has been home to the Texas Stars ice hockey team, which plays in the American Hockey League. The Texas Stars will perform their home games at the 6,863-spectator Cedar Park Center.
